
Matt Friedman
Partner
Matt joined the firm in 2018 and became a partner in 2021. He grew up in Williamsburg, Virginia and graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 2004 with a degree in Psychology. Matt earned his Juris Doctorate from the Charleston School of Law in Charleston, South Carolina in 2007.
Matt's primary areas of practice include domestic relations, criminal and traffic defense, guardianship matters, and debt collection. Matt began his career as an Assistant Attorney General with the South Carolina Attorney General's Office, and prior to joining the firm, he served for five years as an Assistant Attorney General at the Office of the Attorney General of Virginia in Richmond. This experience in public service provides him with a unique and valuable perspective in his representation of both individuals and businesses. Matt has significant trial experience, having conducted jury trials across numerous jurisdictions within the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Matt is a past President of the Prince Edward Bar Association, and he currently serves on the Board of Directors for STEPS, Inc.
Outside of his legal practice, Matt is an avid sports fan and proudly supports Hampden-Sydney College and Longwood University athletics. He enjoys playing tennis and basketball. Matt resides in Farmville with his wife, Shannon, their two sons, Haynes and Jack, and their dog, Goose.
